The Montegrappa Prize for Fiction

Montegrappa has supported many artistic events in the UAE, including theatre, twice being the title sponsor of productions of 'Rest Upon the Wind', a play about the life of the great Arab author, Khalil Gibran, to whom Montegrappa dedicated a limited edition pen collection in 2015.

Montegrappa's support of the arts, however, extends beyond Music and the performing arts. Montegrappa has been the title sponsor of the “Montegrappa prize for fiction” a writing competition running since 2013 as part of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. The Prize is considered one of the most successful writing competitions in the region, with eight past winners and runners-up already becoming internationally published writers.

To enter the competition, unpublished authors over the age of 21 and based in the GCC are invited to submit the first 2,000 words of their manuscript and a synopsis of 400 words, which is read and judged by top UK literary agent Luigi Bonomi, who has been a judge of the competition since its inception.

Past winners of the competition include Annabel Kantaria, now on her 4th novel and published by Harper Collins, Rachel Hamilton who is on her second series of children's books with Oxford University Press, Lucy Strange, who's first novel was selected as Waterstones book of the month and has been translated into 4 languages, as well as multiple novels by Jessica Jarlvi, Karen Osman, Charlotte Butterfield and Tamsin Winter. A total of more than 20 books have now been published by authors who have been discovered through the Montegrappa Writing Prize.
