Montegrappa Unveils ‘Winter is Here’ collection and calls for Dragon Sketches at MEFCC 2019
Montegrappa, the Italian luxury pen maker, will be back at Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) this April, showcasing its latest fantasy and superhero themed products, including the new ‘Winter is Here’ luxury writing instruments, the final installment in the Game of Thrones collection.
The very first piece of this limited edition collection of 300 pieces, will be unveiled in Dubai at MEFCC from 11th to 13th April 2019, a few days before the premiere of the final season of the HBO series on the 14th of April. The pen features the ice dragon, perched over the cap, with sapphire blue eyes and breathing blue fire along the clip. This complements Montegrappa’s previous limited edition pens featuring dragons, such as the company’s most famous 1995 limited edition Dragon Pen, which was famously used in the 1999 handover of the Russian presidency as the symbol of the power of the office, and the subsequent 2012 Chinese Dragon edition that was launched in the year of the dragon, and dedicated to Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee.
This year at MEFCC, Montegrappa is holding a competition to discover new artistic talent in the region, in the form of a sketch competition.
Attendees are invited to the Montegrappa stand at MEFCC to submit their entries, in the form of a pen or pencil sketch of a dragon, warrior or fantasy scene. Entries will also be accepted at Montegrappa boutiques in Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. The top 5 sketches will be submitted to Montegrappa’s design team in Italy for consideration to be made into a luxury bespoke one-of-a-kind writing instrument, which, if selected for production, will be featured in Montegrappa’s flagship boutique in Dubai Mall and on the Montegrappa website globally.
The winner and runners up of the competition will receive Montegrappa Batman pens from the DC Comics Heroes and Villains collection created under license from Warner Bros in 2014.
Montegrappa is no stranger to discovering and rewarding new talent through its competitions. The Montegrappa Prize for Fiction at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature has produced 8 published authors in the last 6 years with more than 21 books published to date.
This sketch competition is the first time Montegrappa rolls out such an initiative in the region, for sketch artists and comic enthusiasts, giving them an opportunity for their talent to be recognized and exposed internationally.
